Chris , bourgeois Christian Maicon Hening (born August 25, 1978 in Blumenau ), is a former Brazilian soccer player with German ancestors who also has an Italian passport. As a versatile defender , he was mostly used in defensive midfield or in central defense.

Career

Club career

Chris grew up in the southern Brazilian city of Blumenau . Through clubs from Curitiba and Porto Alegre , he was signed in the winter of 2003 by FC St. Pauli , who played in the 2nd Bundesliga. In his very first game he scored a goal in a 2-0 win against VfB Lübeck .

Eintracht Frankfurt

After 13 games and three goals at the second division St. Pauli, he was signed for the 2003/04 season by the then Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt . This season, Eintracht rose to the 2nd Bundesliga. Then Chris caused a scandal when he signed with the Brazilian fifth division Prudentópolis Esporte Clube despite a valid contract in Frankfurt and was then banned by FIFA for three months. After calling the international sports court CAS, the ban was lifted in the event that Prudentópolis is paid 250,000 euros. After discussion and reconciliation with Eintracht, the club's management took over the penalty payment to lift the ban and put him back in the squad, which later rose to the 1st Bundesliga.

Although Chris' contract with Eintracht Frankfurt ran until 2009, the then coach and manager of VfL Wolfsburg Felix Magath announced after the game against Eintracht that he wanted to bring him to Wolfsburg for the 2008 summer break. The background to this was an exit clause that allowed Chris to leave Eintracht for a fixed fee before the end of the contract period. However, there was no change, as Eintracht submitted an improved offer for an extension, which Chris finally accepted.

As Eintracht's longest-serving field player, Chris had accompanied the development of the team, which was completely reorganized after relegation in 2004, from the beginning and had a corresponding importance with the team, fans and board. At the beginning of the 2010/11 season, Chris was appointed team captain, but could hardly appear due to injuries (see below). The club was soon in a relegation battle, and the class was not held under the new coach Christoph Daum . Finally, the contract with Chris was terminated at the end of the 2010/11 season.

VfL Wolfsburg

In the summer break of 2011, shortly before the end of the transfer period, Chris was signed by coach and manager Felix Magath, who had returned to the first division club VfL Wolfsburg. His one-year contract was not renewed after the season ended; Chris only played eight times for Wolfsburg.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

For the 2012/13 season , Chris received a one-year contract with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . After his contract expired, Chris left the club.

FC Tombense

In the summer of 2013 he signed a contract with FC Tombense in his home country . After a short time he announced the end of his career.

Injuries

Chris has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. After undergoing intervertebral disc surgery in May 2006 , he failed until December 2006. An inner ligament damage caused Chris to miss the first third of the 2007/08 season. As soon as he had run aground again in winter, he suffered a complicated foot injury and was out for the last third of the season. In the 2008/09 season, Chris was only able to play 19 season games due to injuries. 2009/2010 was the first season in years that he played without major injuries. Because of a groin injury that he sustained during opening training, he was unable to exercise his new position as team captain at the start of the 2010/11 season. After only seven games this season, Chris had to take another break from the end of October 2010 because of a nerve infection in his back . After a short return to team training, it turned out in early February 2011 that Chris had to undergo another operation on his spinal disc . The season was over.
