Chris Bunch

Christopher (Chris) Renshaw Bunch (born December 22, 1943 in Fresno , California ; died July 4, 2005 in Ilwaco , Washington ) was an American science fiction and fantasy writer.

Life

Bunch fought as a member of the Long-range Reconnaissance Patrol , a special unit for reconnaissance missions, in the Vietnam War and was decorated for his achievements. After returning from Vietnam, he became a committed member of the anti-war movement of the late 1960s. Bunch subsequently worked as a journalist, wrote for the music magazine Rolling Stone and for Stars and Stripes , and wrote over 100 scripts with Allan Cole , a long-time friend, including episodes of series such as Quincy , The Incredible Hulk , Magnum and Walker, Texas Ranger .

As a novelist, Bunch initially worked exclusively with Cole. The first joint work was the novel cycle of the Sten Chronicles , the first volume of which appeared in 1982. Another collaboration with Cole was the fantasy cycle The Distant Kingdoms . The second volume in the trilogy was nominated for the Locus Award and the James Tiptree Jr Memorial Award . 1995 Bunch and Cole ended their collaboration after a falling out. Most of Bunch's science fiction is part of the military - space opera subgenre .

Bunch died of lung disease in 2005 at the age of 61.
