Christopher Paul LiPuma (born March 23, 1971 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a retired American ice hockey player . During his career he played for the Tampa Bay Lightning and San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League .

Career

LiPuma first played four years from 1988 to 1992 in the Ontario Hockey League with Kitchener Rangers , with whom he took part in the Memorial Cup in the 1989/90 season .

Undrafted , the defender switched to the professional field for the 1992/93 season after signing a contract with the newly founded Tampa Bay Lightning as a free agent . The American stayed loyal to them for four years and played each season in the NHL with the Lightning and in their farm team , the Atlanta Knights from the International Hockey League . With the Knights he was able to celebrate winning the Turner Cup , the IHL championship trophy, at the end of the 1993/94 game year . In the summer of 1996 LiPuma left the Tampa Bays franchise and signed a contract as a free agent with the San Jose Sharks , where he was also in the NHL and in the NHL until March 1997, when he was selected from the waiver list by the New Jersey Devils Farm team at the Kentucky Thoroughblades was used.

After moving to the New Jersey Devils, LiPuma came to no further NHL missions after playing a total of 72 games for Tampa and San Jose. As a result, he played exclusively in the minor league farm teams of the NHL clubs for the Orlando Solar Bears , San Antonio Dragons and Chicago Wolves . Other stations were the Baton Rouge Kingfish in the East Coast Hockey League and the Orlando Seals , where he was active as a player-coach in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League and World Hockey Association 2 and ended his career after the 2003/04 season.
