Christopher Tomlinson ( Christopher George "Chris" Tomlinson ; born September 15, 1981 in Middlesbrough ) is a British long jumper .

His breakthrough came in 2002 when he broke Lynn Davies' 34-year-old British record on April 13 in Tallahassee, just three months after a training accident in which he broke both wrists . In the same season he was sixth at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester as well as at the European Championships in Munich .

A ninth place at the World Athletics Championships 2003 in Paris / Saint-Denis was followed by a sixth place at the 2004 World Indoor Athletics Championships in Budapest. At the Olympic Games in Athens , he was fifth.

After he was eliminated in qualifying at the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 , he was ninth at the European Championships in Gothenburg the following year . In 2007 he improved his own British record to 8.29 m on July 7 in Bad Langensalza , but failed again in the preliminary round at the World Championships in Osaka . At the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin, he finished eighth. Although he lost the British record in 2009 to Greg Rutherford , who jumped 8.30 m, he got it back in 2011 at the Areva meeting with 8.35 m.

On February 2, 2008, he set the current British indoor record of 8.18 m in Stuttgart . Shortly afterwards, he won the silver medal at the World Indoor Championships in Valencia , but missed the final at the Olympic Games in Beijing that summer .
