Christel Adick
Christel Adick (born February 5, 1948 in Münster ) is a German professor of comparative education and taught at the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1993 to 2013 .
Until she graduated as a qualified pedagogue in 1973, she studied in Münster. She received her doctorate in 1979 in Hanover and completed her habilitation in 1990 at the University of Siegen in educational sciences on topics relating to Togo and West Africa . From 1980 to 1993 she taught as a lecturer at the University of Siegen, then she was appointed to Bochum.
Her focus is on educational developments in the third world , especially Africa, global learning , transnational educational areas. For schools in the modern “world system”, she follows the analyzes of Immanuel Wallerstein . It also takes up the institution - oriented “ world polity ” approach of the US sociologist John W. Meyer , according to which a converging educational “world culture” develops. With Niklas Luhmann she refers to the “world society” as a frame of reference for educational research. But she also points to Bourdieu's theory of cultural capital on the relative autonomy of the educational system in society and, together with the developmental psychologist Jean Piaget, considers individual and collective learning processes to be possible.
She was visiting professor at the University of the West Indies / Cave Hill ( Barbados ), taught in international projects at Nangarhar University in Jalalabad (Afghanistan) and at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University of Port Elizabeth (South Africa). She is a member of the Editorial Board of the International Review of Education at the UNESCO Institute for Education in Hamburg.
