Christian Friedrich Rudiger

Christian Friedrich Rüdiger (born August 4, 1760 in Leipzig ; † June 5, 1809 there ) was a German astronomer and university professor .

Life

Rüdiger was the son of a tanner . He graduated from the Leipzig Nikolaischule by 1777 or 1779 . Until 1786 he studied natural sciences at the University of Leipzig , although he was initially supposed to study law . On July 17, 1785, he received his bachelor and master degrees at the same time . In the spring of 1786, he was finally with the dissertation Specimen analyticum de lineis curvis secundi ordinis doctorate . In 1790 he completed his habilitation at Leipzig University. He then taught as a private lecturer in mathematics and astronomy.

In 1791, Rüdiger became an observer at the University Observatory on the Pleißenburg and at the same time an extraordinary professor of mathematics and astronomy at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Leipzig. On March 3, 1792, he gave his inaugural lecture on the refraction of starlight.

Rüdiger was a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in Göttingen and a member of the Economic Society in Leipzig . In 1909 the Rüdigerstrasse in Leipzig was named after him.
