Christian Friedrich Richter (born October 5, 1676 in Sorau ( Niederlausitz ), † October 5, 1711 in Halle an der Saale ) was a German Protestant pastor , hymn poet and doctor at the Francke Foundations .

life and work

Christian Friedrich was the son of Sigismund Richter, a senior administrative officer in Sorau / Niederlausitz and his wife Anna Margaretha, née Döbler. Richter later studied medicine and theology, among other things. He was a student and initially a close confidante of August Hermann Francke , inspector of education and a doctor at the orphanage in Halle an der Saale . From 1699 he was an institution doctor for the entire Francke institutions. Richter received his doctorate in Halle in 1706. With the gold tincture he sold, he opened up a rich source of income for the institutions.

As a Protestant hymn poet, he was a deeply religious poet of Halle Pietism . He died in 1711 at the age of 35 in Halle an der Saale.

From his total of 25 hymns, for example, the Evangelical Church Hymn book, edition for the Evangelical Church in Württemberg from 1953, still shows seven songs.
