Christian Friis Bach (born April 29, 1966 ) is a Danish economist , university professor and politician from Det RadISCHE Venstre (RV).

Life

After completing his schooling at Kalundborg Gymnasium, he began studying agricultural sciences at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Copenhagen in 1986 and graduated with a master's degree in 1992 . He then completed postgraduate studies in international economics at the Royal Veterinary and Agriculture University in Copenhagen, where he received his doctorate in 1996 on the subject of "International trade in agricultural goods, trade exemption and effects on developing countries".

In 1996, Bach first became Assistant Professor of Economic Development at the Institute for Economics at the University of Copenhagen , before he was Associate Professor of International Economics and Economic Development at the Royal Veterinary and Agriculture University between 1999 and 2005. He was also active as a journalist and visiting professor, and from 1997 to 2001 he was chairman of Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke , a Danish association for international cooperation.

Between 2005 and 2010 he was International Director of Folkekirkens Nødhjælp , an aid organization of the Danish Church . In addition, from October to November 2005, Bach was a representative member of the Folketing for a short time as well as a member of the Africa Commission headed by Lars Løkke Rasmussen . At the same time, he became Professor of International Economics and Development at the University of Copenhagen in 2009, where he worked primarily at the Institute for Nutrition and Resource Development and the Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology.

In 2010, he then took a position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of View World and was also special adviser to the Danish EU - Commissioner for Climate Action Connie Hedegaard of the Forum United Nations to sustainability . In the 2011 Folketing election , Bach ran in the constituency of Nordsjællands Storkreds and won a seat in parliament. Subsequently, on October 3, 2011, he was appointed Minister for Development Aid in the government of Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt .

He resigned on November 21, 2013. Christian Friis Bach thus assumed political responsibility for the fact that the Foreign Ministry had misinformed both Parliament and himself personally regarding internal travel expense regulations of the climate organization Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). The chairman of GGGI and former Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen had previously been heavily criticized for luxury-class air travel.

From 2014 to 2017, Bach was head of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
