Christian Gotthilf Herrmann

Christian Gotthilf Martin Herrmann (born February 8, 1765 in Erfurt ; † August 26, 1823 in Weißensee ) was a German Protestant theologian , university professor and general superintendent .

Life

Herrmann attended the Erfurt elementary school and the Erfurt grammar school . He studied at the universities in Göttingen and Erfurt . After graduating in 1789, he became a catechist at the girls' school of the preaching community in Erfurt . During this time he received the doctorate to Dr. phil. and then qualified as a professor at the University of Erfurt. He became an associate professor of philosophy there in 1790 and also a professor at the local grammar school in 1791 and a deacon (second pastor) at the Reglerkirche . Also in 1791 he was appointed a member of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt , where he was then continuously active. In 1798 he switched to the merchant community as a deacon . During this time he was also editor of the Erfurt learned newspaper .

Herrmann was 1803 as General Superintendent and the consistory to Heiligenstadt to the newly established there consistory . He also became the first Protestant pastor there since the Counter Reformation . He stayed there until a Prussian government was installed in Erfurt. In 1816 he was appointed consistorial and ecclesiastical department council. In 1817 he became superintendent and senior of the Evangelical Ministry of the Erfurt diocese. During this time he intensified his work at the Erfurt Academy of Sciences. In 1823 he died of a heart attack on a business trip in Weißensee .
