Life

Neubert was the son of a Jahnsdorf schoolmaster who showed an early talent for music. After leaving school at the Lyceum in Chemnitz , he went early in the year 1787 to Leipzig to attend the local university theology study. Here Neubert made the acquaintance of Johann Adam Hiller , who gave him a musical lecture and recommended him to Johann Gottfriedschicht as a singer at the Leipzig Singing Academy. At short notice, at the request of his father, he turned down a job in Jever that Hiller had arranged .

In 1790 Neubert was transferred to the rectorate in Grünhain , in 1798 he was appointed as cantor and music director in Annaberg, where he worked until the end of his life.
