Christian Heinrich von Quitzow

Christian Heinrich von Quitzow (born June 27, 1737 in Kuhsdorf ; † November 1, 1806 in Magdeburg ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 6 .

Life

His parents were Franz Julius von Quitzow (* April 28, 1694; † August 8, 1774), heir to von Kuhsdorf, Bullendorf and Rönnebeck, and his wife Lucie Rosine Elisabeth, née von Rohr (Meyenburg) (* October 21, 1705, † April 7, 1794). His brother Albrecht Ludwig (1740–1803) was a district administrator and married to Dorothea Charlotte Emilie von Saldern (1742–1813), daughter of General Wilhelm von Saldern . The youngest brother Albrecht Heinrich († February 20, 1824) became a Prussian colonel and died as the last of this line.

Military career

Quitzow came in 1755 as a standard squire in the cuirassier regiment "von Driesen" . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles of Lobositz , Breslau , Zorndorf , Kunersdorf , Liegnitz and Torgau . He was wounded in the Battle of Kolin . He also took part in the battles with Reichen and the sieges of Prague and Schweidnitz. During that time he became a cornet on February 25, 1757 and a lieutenant on February 5, 1760.

After the war, on October 2, 1768, he became a captain and company commander . In 1778/79 he fought in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On June 19, 1783 Quitzow became major. On August 11, 1790, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and on January 21, 1793 to colonel . In the First Coalition War , he fought at the siege of Mainz. On June 25, 1800 Quitzow was then appointed regiment commander and on October 2, 1800 chief of the cuirassier regiment "von Byern". On May 20, 1801 he was appointed major general with a patent from May 22, 1801. Quitzow then went into the Fourth Coalition War in 1806 . He was seriously wounded in the Battle of Auerstedt and remained unsupervised on the battlefield until October 15, 1806. After he was found, Quitzow was taken to Magdeburg, where his foot had to be amputated. He died of his wound on November 1, 1806 in Magdeburg.

At Priesdorff, Karoline von Roth is given as his wife. What is meant is probably Karoline von Rohtt von und zu Holzschwang, but she was the wife of his brother August Heinrich . The specified son was also his nephew.
