Christian Köster

Christian Henry Kantapper Koester (* 4. August 1947 in Hamburg , † 26. October 2019 ) was a German advertising film - director . He was a professor for advertising at the University of Television and Film Munich (HFF Munich).

Life

Christian Köster studied graphic design and free painting in Maryland, USA and Hamburg . At the age of 21 he worked as the second German assistant director on the film Die Brücke von Remagen , directed by John Guillermin .

Köster learned from the German commercial filmmaker Bruno Knoche and from Herb Skoble, who is based in New York and Paris. In the early 1980s, Köster was the managing director, writer and director of Cinedome Entertainment. In the meantime he was a historical consultant and art director for the British feature film production The Riddle of the Sands (German "By Night and Fog") from 1979.

From 1980 to 1985, Köster was a director at HKF film and television production in Hamburg. In 1985 he founded the Vis-à-Vis TV and film production. Köster has shot several hundred commercials and corporate films in his career .

His grandfather was the diplomat and SPD politician Adolf Köster .

Teaching

After first part-time steps as a lecturer at the Hanseatic Academy for Marketing and Media, as a lecturer at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg, as well as at the Adolf Grimme Institute in Berlin and Leipzig, Köster became in 1999 Acting head of the advertising, PR and image film department at the University of Television and Film in Munich. After his full-time appointment in 2001, he was head of the advertising department at the HFF. He was a permanent member of the university senate, a temporary member of the university council and chairman of the examination committee. For years, Köster was on the innovation committee of the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media .

Köster was an honorary member of the German Advertising Film Academy. Köster's teaching content was based on conveying all hierarchies, dependencies, rights and obligations, as well as the customs of the production processes of the advertising film industry in their relationship with advertising agencies and the contracting industry. Incl. Acquisition, packaging, pre-production, implementation, post-production and acceptance. His main focus was on developing ideas, from strategy to concept to idea to film. This includes briefing as well as presentation and pitch. Köster supported his students in their advertising film projects, with which they won over 150 prizes and awards at various festivals such as ADC, First Steps, Klappe, Kurz & Schön, as well as the New York Festival and the Cannes Young Directors Award on behalf of the advertising sector to have.
