Christian Nikolaus Locker (born April 19, 1963 in Vienna ; † July 11, 2018 there ) was an Austrian writer and painter .

Life

Locker studied philosophy and history at the University of Vienna . From 1984 to 1988 he wrote columnist stories for the Wiener Journal and the literary magazine Wespennest (No. 79). Since 1992 he has been a freelance painter and farmer and forester .

Act

Through intensive occupation with Martin Haidinger's textbook From the guillotine to lethal injection. Facts cases misjudgments. Locker began the story of the death penalty in 2009 with the writing of his extensive novel Simply Everyone , who is set in a contemporary Austria, where the death penalty and even the most cruel medieval methods of execution still exist. The book deals with the subjects of euthanasia , guilt and responsibility and deals with the subject of fate or conspiracy theories. The real issue, however, is the indispensable indictment of the death penalty.

The novel, When does the coziness end? , is a psychogram of his hometown Vienna and its theme is the Austrian's longing for the past for something like an emperor .

In the third novel IM BERG (L) , which is set in an idyllic spot in the Rax-Schneeberg region, the omnipotence of the EU, which reaches into the furthest corners, is targeted. In flashbacks, Austria's search for identity in the first days of the Second Republic is examined.

A school class serves in the satirical novel Set! Not enough! as a parable for a closed society from which there is no escape. Even beyond physical death, the protagonists remain stuck to their fate. However, the question constantly arises whether there can be death in the philosophical sense at all.

The fact that parallel worlds can exist side by side is discussed in the novel The Gallows Bird Shot . And because the assassination attempt of Sarajevo on the heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Este in 1914 did not take place in one of these worlds , the Habsburgs still rule in today's Austria .

Locker's sixth novel Unnecessary Austria was published in April 2018 . In this Locker referred to his previous publications. In the work he satirically describes an Austria of the future caught between national pride and cosmopolitanism. The Federal Chancellor has fled, the Interior Minister is sitting in the old people's home and the capital Vienna no longer exists.

His last work, the crime novel ZEITIG - The Zerner case , was also published in 2018 . A famous philosopher is shot dead in front of witnesses in a cafe in Vienna. The participants find themselves one after the other in the past. Against the surreal background of a Gödel universe, contemporary history and philosophy merge into an exciting scenario.
