Christian Ludwig Ermisch
Christian Ludwig Ermisch (born November 15, 1652 in Celle , † December 19, 1722 in Braunschweig ) was a German Lutheran theologian . From 1682 to 1693 he was pastor at the Brunswick Katharinenkirche . From 1693 he was the 15th superintendent of the city of Braunschweig.
life and work
He was the son of the courier Christoph Ermisch. After studying theology at the University of Helmstedt between 1673 and 1676 , he became pastor at the Katharinenkirche in Braunschweig in 1682. He was licensed under Friedrich Ulrich Calixt in 1689 at the theological faculty in Helmstedt, where he received his doctorate in theology in 1693. In the same year, Ermisch succeeded Bartholomäus Botsack, who moved to Copenhagen, to become superintendent of the city of Braunschweig.
On behalf of Duke Rudolf August , Ermisch produced a hymn book that was binding for the duchy under the title “God's Heaven on Earth. That is: The Braunschweig Ordinary General Hymn book, which appeared in 1686. Numerous texts have survived from Ermisch's many years of intensive preaching work. He gave the funeral sermon for Duke Rudolf August, who died on January 26, 1704. His sermon from 1710 on the occasion of the funeral service for Duchess Sophie Amalie , wife of Hereditary Prince August Wilhelm, has also been preserved .
Ermisch died in Braunschweig in 1722 and was buried in the local Katharinenkirche.
family
In 1682 he married Maria Elisabeth Mente († 1727), sister of Rosine Elisabeth Menthe , who had been married to the sovereign Duke Rudolf August since 1681 . Of the three children from Ermisch's marriage, the son August Adolf later became court judge in Wolfenbüttel . A sister of Ermisch had been married to the Pietist hymn poet Heinrich Georg Neuss since 1684 .
