Christian Matthias Schlaga

Christian Matthias Schlaga (born November 7, 1953 in Erfurt ) is a German diplomat and was ambassador to Namibia from 2015 to 2019 .

Life

After graduating from high school , Schlaga did his military service in the Bundeswehr from 1972 to 1973 and then studied law , which he completed in 1979 with the first state examination. After the subsequent legal clerkship and the second state examination, he joined the Foreign Service in 1982 .

After completing his career examination, he was employed at the Foreign Office in Bonn from 1984 to 1987 and then at the embassy in Zimbabwe until 1989 . After a subsequent assignment at the headquarters of the Foreign Office, he worked at the embassy in the United States from 1993 to 1997 and then at the embassy in Portugal until 2000 . After he was Head of the Political Department of the Embassy in Italy as Counselor from 2000 to 2004 , he became Head of Division in the Foreign Office and from 2008 to 2011 Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to India .

After almost four years as the German ambassador to Estonia, Schlaga moved to the German embassy in Windhoek in 2015 , replacing Onno Hückmann as ambassador to Namibia . Schlaga held the office from July 29, 2015 to mid-2019.
