Onno Hückmann

Onno Hückmann (born April 26, 1950 in Bremen ) is a German diplomat . From September 17, 2012 to June 2015, he was ambassador to Namibia .

Life

After graduating from high school, Hückmann studied law between 1969 and 1976 and passed the first state examination in 1976 and the second state examination in 1978 after completing two years of legal preparatory service. He then worked as a research assistant at the State Office for School Practice and Teacher Examinations (LASL) in Bremen between 1978 and 1979 .

In 1979, Hückmann joined the Foreign Service and, after completing the two-year preparatory service for the career of the higher foreign service and the career examination, was permanent representative of the head of the Consulate General in Nancy between 1981 and 1983 . After a subsequent assignment from 1983 to 1985 as a cultural advisor at the embassy in Romania , he was permanent representative of the ambassador in Mozambique between 1985 and 1987 .

From 1987 to 1990, Hückmann was a consultant in the Africa Department of the Foreign Office in Bonn and subsequently legal and consular officer at the Embassy in Argentina , before he was head of a work unit in the Foreign Office between 1993 and 1996 and then from 1996 to 1999 as a deputy Head of Unit was appointed.

In 1999 Hückmann became Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Ireland and, after completing this activity, returned to the Foreign Office between 2002 and 2008, where he now worked as Head of Unit. He then spent a year as a fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University worked and functioned after 2009 to 2012 as Consul General and Head of the Consulate General in Chicago .

From September 17, 2012 to June 2015, Hückmann was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Namibia and thus successor to Egon Kochanke , who in turn became regional representative for Africa in the Federal Foreign Office.
