Egon Kochanke

Egon Kochanke (born March 28, 1952 in Brühl ) is a German diplomat and has been an ambassador to the Comoros since 2015 .

Life

After graduating from high school , Kochanke began studying history , political science , sociology and law at the University of Bonn and the University of Freiburg in 1972 , and in 1977 passed the first state examination for higher education . He then did his community service between 1978 and 1979 at the non-governmental organization Eirene in Neuwied .

In 1980 he joined the Foreign Service and, after completing his training as an attaché, became Second Secretary at the Embassy in Canada in 1982 and then from 1985 to 1989 Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to Liberia . After his return to Germany, he was a consultant in the parliamentary and cabinet departments of the Federal Foreign Office and during this time between 1990 and 1991 he was also an election observer for the United Nations in Haiti . From 1992 to 1996 he was employed as counselor and representative for the European Union at the embassy in the United Kingdom , before he was then personal assistant to State Secretary Peter Hartmann and deputy head of the State Secretaries' office in the Foreign Office until 1999 .

After completion of this activity, he was employed as a permanent representative of the ambassador in Israel and then from 2002 to 2005 as head of the export control unit ( dual-use goods in the non-conventional area). He then served as envoy and economic director at the embassy in the United States .

From August 2008 to July 2012 Egon Kochanke was the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Namibia. He then became regional representative for Africa in the Foreign Office, while the previous head of the Consulate General in Chicago , Onno Hückmann , succeeded him as Ambassador to Namibia.
