Herbert Beck (diplomat)

Herbert Beck (born April 5, 1957 in Ludwigsburg ) is a German diplomat and has been ambassador to Namibia since November 7, 2019 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1976 and completing community service in 1979, Beck began studying psychology , political science and international law at the University of Zurich and the University of London , which he graduated in 1989.

In 1989 Beck began the preparatory service for the higher foreign service at the Foreign Service Academy and, after graduating, worked at the Embassy in New Zealand between 1991 and 1994 and then at the headquarters of the Foreign Office from 1994 to 1997 . He then acted as permanent representative of the Ambassador in Uganda between 1997 and 2000 and then returned to the Foreign Office, where he was initially employed in the Political Department from 2000 to 2003 and deputy head of the Security and Defense Policy Unit from 2003 to 2006 was.

Between 2006 and 2009 Beck acted as Deputy Head of the Political Department of the Permanent Mission to the international organizations in Geneva and was then an advisor in the planning staff of the Federal Minister of Defense between 2009 and 2010 . From 2010 to 2012 he was Head of the Security and Defense Policy Unit at the Federal Foreign Office and from 2012 to 2015 Permanent Representative of the Ambassador to South Africa .

In 2015 Beck succeeded Thomas Hermann Meister as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Iceland . On September 7, 2015, he was received by the President of Iceland , Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson , to present his credentials. He is married and has two sons.
