Life

Reimers began his career as a musician with the Gewandhaus Orchestra , where he demonstrated his dual talent as a musician and draftsman through caricatures of his fellow musicians. In 1851 he followed Schumann to Düsseldorf to play in the orchestra under his direction. From the end of 1852 he worked in Bonn, where he formed a successful piano trio for chamber music performances together with Julius Tausch and Wilhelm Joseph von Wasielewski or together with his brother Hermann, who worked there as a music teacher (* December 22, 1825 in Altona; † January 13 1898 in Bonn) appeared. Since October 1854 Christian Reimers has been working as a cello teacher at the Cologne Conservatory.

In mid-1856 he went to England and emigrated to Australia in the summer of 1882 after losing patent deals. At first he found acceptance in Edithburgh with his sister Bertha and her husband, but went to Adelaide a year later . There he played with the Adelaide String Quartet, directed a German choir and became notorious for his spiritualistic views. In 1886 he moved to Melbourne and played with the Zerbini Quartet, which at the time was considered the most respected ensemble in the country. He died on July 24, 1889 on the crossing from Melbourne to Europe in the Red Sea.
