He is an active member of the Association of Reservists of the German Armed Forces .

Political career

2009 founded Sauter the FDP local federation Extertal and in the same year in the council of the municipality elected Extertal. In 2011 he took over the group chairmanship . Since the North Rhine-Westphalian municipal elections in 2014 , he has led a five-member FDP parliamentary group in the 30-member municipal council of the municipality of Extertal. Sauter won a direct mandate with 37.7% of the votes cast. In addition, he has been a member of the Lippe regional association since the 2014 local elections . He is also a member of the expanded FDP district parliamentary group in Lippe and the expanded FDP / Free Voters regional council group in the Detmold district government .

In 2012 Sauter ran for the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament . In 2017 he ran again on the state list at number 24, until a negligent mix-up resulted and he slipped to the hopeless list position 48. The originally intended list position 24 would have been enough to move into the state parliament. Martina Hannen , who was originally at number 48 on the list , took the place actually intended for him in the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament .

Due to this fact and the resignation of the previous FDP Bundestag candidate in the Bundestag constituency Lippe I , he was put up as a direct candidate for the 2017 Bundestag election and placed on list position 15 of the FDP North Rhine-Westphalia . Because of the election results of the FDP in North Rhine-Westphalia (20 members were elected via the FDP state list), he moved into the 19th German Bundestag .

Christian Sauter is a full member of the Defense Committee in the 19th legislative period . He is also a deputy member of the Transport and Digital Infrastructure Committee and the Petitions Committee .
