Christian Stachelbeck

Christian Stachelbeck (* 1967 in Münster ) is a German officer ( lieutenant colonel ) and military historian whose research area is the First World War .

In 1987, Stachelbeck joined the German Armed Forces and initially trained as a sergeant , then as an officer in the troop service in the armored force , which he completed in 1993. In the same year Stachelbeck began a master’s degree in history, education and political science at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg , which he completed in 1996. In the following two years, Stachelbeck was deployed as a platoon leader in the troop service before he became a teaching staff officer for military history at the army officers' school in Dresden in 1998 . From 2000 to 2003 he was used again in the troop service, this time as a company commander. During this time, Stachelbeck also took part in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan .

From 2003 to 2005 he was a staff officer with the heads of office captain to sea Jörg Duppler and Colonel Hans Ehlert at the Military History Research Office in Potsdam. In 2005 he became a research associate at the Ages of World War research department there. Followed in 2009 at the Faculty I of the Humboldt University of Berlin , the promotion of the factors Military Effectiveness in World War I on the example of the 11th Bavarian Infantry Division to Dr. phil. Stachelbeck is a member of the German Commission for Military History.
