Christian Stetter

Christian J. Stetter (born June 19, 1943 in Naumburg ; † December 7, 2017 in Aachen ) was a German linguist .

Life

Christian Stetter studied German , history and philosophy at the Universities of Marburg and Lyon from 1965 to 1970.

From 1971 Stetter was a research assistant at the University of Düsseldorf , where he received his doctorate in 1973 with a thesis on the late philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein .

From 1974 to 2009 he was a full professor of German linguistics at RWTH Aachen University , where he mainly dealt with the subject of action theory. In 1990/1991 and 1995/1996 he held a visiting professorship at Keiō University in Tokyo .

In 1979 and 1980, Stetter was chairman of the German Society for Semiotics . From 1987 to 1998 he was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy at RWTH Aachen University and from 1998 to 2006 Dean.

Stetter was managing director of semantics Kommunikationmanagement GmbH in Aachen and scientific director of the grammatical telephone of the Research Center for Communication and Writing Culture eV (FoKS) at the German Institute of RWTH Aachen.

Christian Stetter died on December 7, 2017 and found his final resting place in the Aachen forest cemetery .
