For three years he worked for the Norwegian NATO delegation in Brussels , and from 1996 to 1997 he attended the NATO Defense College in Rome . Tybring-Gjedde was a member of Oslo City Council between 2003 and 2005 .

In 2005 he entered the Norwegian national parliament in Storting for the first time . Since then he has represented the constituency of Oslo . In the first two legislative periods up to September 2013 he was a member of the finance committee. In October 2013 he became part of the Foreign and Defense Committee, where he has served as second deputy chairman since June 2015. From 2010 to 2014 he was also the head of the FrP in Oslo.

Positions

After the 2011 attacks in Norway , a post written by Tybring-Gjedde and his party colleague Kent Andersen in 2010 was criticized in the Aftenposten . In it sat the two with immigration policy and multiculturalism apart and wrote among other things that the Social Democratic Arbeiderpartiet want to stab the Norwegian culture. In August 2011, Tybring-Gjedde finally said that he regretted his choice of words.

In 2014 he published the book Mens orkesteret fortsetter å spille ( German : while the orchestra continues to play ). He explained that Norway was on the way to cultural and economic ruin and attributed this to excessive immigration, poor integration and expensive welfare measures. In an interview, he also stated that there was already no more creeping Islamization because it was already in full swing. He also criticized his party's governmental cooperation with the liberal Venstre , as it was impossible to unite the immigration policies of both parties.

In September 2018, Tybring-Gjedde stated that the FrP could work with the Swedish Sverigedemokraterna in several areas . He suggested inviting its controversial chairman, Jimmie Åkesson, to a FrP convention, but his party ultimately declined.
