Christian Walter Much

Christian Walter Much (born May 31, 1953 in Luxembourg ) is a German diplomat and ambassador to Libya from 2013 to 2016 .

Life

After High School in European Schools in Luxembourg and Brussels studied Much 1971-1975 Law at the University of Hamburg and the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg . He also completed another degree in anthropology between 1976 and 1979 . After the first state examination in law , he was in the legal preparatory service from 1977 to 1979 and then passed the second state examination in 1979. He then briefly completed postgraduate studies at Harvard University and then worked as a lawyer in Paris for some time .

In 1980, Much joined the German Foreign Service and, after completing his career test for the higher civil service, between 1982 and 1992 worked at diplomatic missions in the Middle East , Hungary and Central America as well as at the headquarters of the Foreign Office .

From 1992 to 2008 he was employed at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York City as well as at the Foreign Office in Berlin almost continuously with United Nations issues and most recently headed the Department for Global and Fundamental Issues of the United Nations at the Foreign Office. From 2008 to April 2010 he was envoy and head of the cultural department of the embassy in Italy. Christian Walter Much was Consul General in Naples from April 2010 to June 2013, and Ambassador to Libya from July 2013 to August 2016 .
