Christian Weissbach

Christian Weißbach (born March 28, 1906 in Heinrichsort ; † March 24, 1962 ) was a German engineer. He was the chief construction manager of the Bodewerke .

Life

Weißbach was born in Heinrichsort, Saxony, as the son of a teacher. He attended elementary school in Raußlitz and high school in Zwickau. Weißbach then studied from 1925 to 1930 at the Technical University in Dresden . From 1931 to 1934 he passed the second state examination for the higher technical service in the road, water and railroad subject. He then worked initially in Saxony and later at the Pomeranian-Stettin Provincial Association as a project engineer, site manager and in technical administration in the areas of water and road construction. During this time he joined the NSDAP . In 1943 Weißbach was drafted into military service. After the end of the war, he initially earned his living as a freelance engineer in construction and water engineering. In 1949 he was employed in the Department of Water Management and gained experience in dam construction in the Ore Mountains during the construction of the Sosa dam and the Cranzahl dam . From 1952 he worked as a senior site manager at the Bodewerk. In 1959, the year this dam was completed, Weißbach and other colleagues received the National Prize of the GDR III for his engineering management . Class in the field of technology and science.

Weißbach received his doctorate on December 16, 1954 as Dr.-Ing. at the Technical University of Dresden with the dissertation control of storage and runoff in natural and artificial basins according to a new investigation method .

Since 1958 he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR for the LDPD , to which he had belonged since 1945 .

With effect from February 1, 1962, Christian Weißbach was appointed professor with a full teaching assignment for hydraulic engineering at the University of Civil Engineering in Leipzig . He died on a trip to his inaugural lecture shortly before the age of 56.
