Christian Wilhelm Franz Walch
Christian Wilhelm Franz Walch (born December 25, 1726 in Jena , † March 10, 1784 in Göttingen ) was a Protestant church historian and professor of theology in Göttingen during the Enlightenment .
Life
His parents were the theologian Johann Georg Walch (1693–1775) and Charlotte Katharina, b. Budde. His older brother was Johann Ernst Immanuel Walch .
He studied theology, philosophy and oriental languages at the University of Jena , earned his master's degree in philosophy in 1745 and received his doctorate in December of the same year. He then read exegesis, philosophy and history for two years and then went on an educational trip with his brother through Germany, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland and Italy.
On June 17, 1750 he was ao at the University of Jena. Professor of Philosophy. In April 1754 he was at the University of Göttingen o. Prof. for philosophy (history) and in July additionally ao. Prof. for theology. It was here that the Enlightenment theologian obtained his doctorate in theology in the same year and three years later he became professor of theology. He read dogmatics , morals, polemics, exegesis , church history with Christian literary history and canon law. In 1760 he rose to the position of Curator Aerariorum piorum in the university administration and was director of the Repetentenkolleg from 1765–1784 .
In 1763 he married Eleonore Friderike Crome, daughter of Friedrich Andreas Crome . In the same year Walch was accepted into the Societät der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen as a full member of the historical class. At the end of 1766 he became the first professor in the theological faculty. In 1772 he was appointed to the British Consistorial Council. 1779–1780 he was director of the aforementioned Society of Sciences in Göttingen.
