Christian Zickermann (born December 27, 1672 in Wollin ( Pomerania ), † May 1726 ) was a German Protestant pastor and historical researcher. He wrote about the history of Pomerania .

Life

Zickermann was born in 1672 in the town of Wollin in Pomerania as the son of a shoemaker. He attended the Stettiner Regium Gymnasium Carolinum and studied at the University of Rostock , the University of Frankfurt an der Oder and the University of Greifswald . He then worked as a tutor in noble families, then as a field chaplain in the Count Mellin regiment .

As a field preacher, Zickermann experienced the siege of Stettin , which at that time belonged to Swedish Pomerania , by Russian troops (see History of the City of Stettin ). He describes the eight-hour bombardment of the city that took place on September 28, 1713: “It was as if heaven and earth wanted to perish, and many who had served abroad and participated in the greatest sieges and bombardments assured them that such a thing never belonged to have."

In 1714 Zickermann was appointed pastor at the Stettin Peter and Paul Church. In the same year he married; the marriage resulted in two sons and five daughters. Zickermann died in May 1726.

On the 600th anniversary of the founding of the Peter and Paul Church in Stettin by Otto von Bamberg , Zickermann published a book about the conversion of Pomerania and the history of the Peter and Paul Church. According to the judgment of the historian Gottfried von Bülow from 1900, this most famous work by Zickermann is "still usable today":

  • News from the old inhabitants in Pomerania, also from religion and conversion, but especially from the St. Petri and Pauli Church in Old Stettin, which Otto von Bamberg had built in 1124 . Szczecin 1724 ( online ).
