Christian Graf von Tattenbach (born January 16, 1846 in Landshut , † February 10, 1910 in Madrid ) was a German diplomat .

Life

Christian von Tattenbach married Franziska Louise Constanze von Metzler (1856–1934) on July 15, 1885 in Frankfurt am Main and was the father of the diplomat Franz von Tattenbach . He was envoy to Tangier (1889–1898) and ambassador to Lisbon (1897–1908) and finally to Madrid from 1908 until his death in 1910.

Morocco

Mulai al-Hassan I sent a delegation led by Kaid von Safi Taibi Benhima on May 23, 1878 to Wilhelm I. Portugal

From 1897 to 1908 Tattenbach was Wilhelm II's ambassador to Charles I of Portugal in Lisbon. He had to represent the colonial strategy of William II, which included the attempt to gain control over the colonies of Portugal. When it became known in 1898 that there were Anglo-Portuguese rescheduling negotiations, the ambassadors of the German Empire in London and Lisbon put peaceful relations up for grabs if German interests were not adequately taken into account. As a guarantee for a loan of 25 million marks, the German Reich in Asia Timor and Goa Damaio, Macao and Diu as well as in Africa the Portuguese areas north of Mozambique with the exception of a strip of three miles on both sides of the Cecil Rhodes Trans-African Railway.

When Wilhelm II appeared in Tangier for the first Morocco crisis on March 31, 1905, he had traveled via Portugal and from Lisbon had been accompanied by von Tattenbach. On January 16, 1906, Tattenbach was a negotiator at the Algeciras Conference on Morocco.
