Life

Franz von Tattenbach's parents were Franziska Louise Constanze von Metzler (1856–1934) and Christian von Tattenbach . Von Tattenbach entered the foreign service of the German Empire in 1911 and in 1915 became legation secretary at the embassy of the German Empire in Bern. Central America has been a good market for German products since the late 19th century. In the 1920s, the existing export companies such as Siemens were joined by new ones such as AEG and Wayss & Freytag to El Salvador and Costa Rica. Tattenbach demanded special care from AEG for a USD 20,000 order to San Ramón , Costa Rica, as this was the first order from a company from the German Empire after the First World War.

In 1925 von Tattenbach returned to Berlin, where he was promoted to Legation Council in 1926 and became Head of Protocol in 1929. In 1937 von Tattenbach was put into temporary retirement and in 1942 into retirement.
