Eduard von Derenthall

Kurt Eduard von Derenthall (born January 18, 1835 in Butow , Saatzig district , † May 8, 1919 in Berlin ) was a lawyer , Imperial German envoy and politician.

family

He comes from a mayor family from Höxter on the Weser and was the son of the landowner and royal Prussian major Albert von Derenthall (1795–1881), landlord of the Pomeranian estates of Butow in the Saatzig district and Pustamin in the Schlawe district, and Luise von der Marwitz (1809-1895).

Derenthall married Luise du Bois (born May 16, 1853 in Brussels , Belgium , † June 7, 1941 in Kreitzig , Pomerania ) on October 12, 1878 in the Hague ( Netherlands ) , the daughter of the royal Dutch ambassador Henri Charles du Bois and Emma Friedrike John. There were at least two children from this marriage. His daughter Emma Viktoria (* 1880; † 1960) married the Pomeranian manor owner and district administrator Rüdiger von der Goltz .

Life

Derenthall began his career in 1859 as a government trainee in Frankfurt (Oder) , was a government assessor in Berlin and Stettin ( Pomerania ) from 1864 to 1865 and from 1866 worked in various functions in the Foreign Office . In 1873 he became counselor in the legation and from 1876 counselor in Rome . In 1882 he became Consul General in Alexandria ( Egypt ) and in 1885 was the first delegate of the Suez Canal Commission in Paris . In 1886 he became a secret legation councilor and envoy in Weimar and from Lisbon ( Portugal ). In 1896 he became the Imperial Real Privy Councilor and from 1897 to 1903 he was ambassador to Stuttgart . In the summer of 1899 and 1900 he took over the representation of the Undersecretary in the Foreign Office.

In 1903 he was appointed a member of the Prussian mansion for life by the king out of "the highest degree of trust" , to which he belonged until 1918. Derenthall was also a legal knight of the Order of St. John .
