Christiane Erdmann
Christiane Erdmann (born December 1, 1950 in Bonn ) is a German sculptor and photographer . She lives in Wiesbaden and works in the fulling mill.
Life
Christiane Erdmann was born as the daughter of the scientist Kurt Erdmann and spent the first years of her childhood in Istanbul . In 1959 Erdmann moved with her family to Berlin , where she lived until 1968. From 1969 to 1977 she studied sculpture at the Werkkunstschule in Wiesbaden under Erwin Schutzbach.
After completing his studies, Erdmann began to work in the theater workshops at the Wiesbaden State Theater . Stage design assistants developed from this. She sat in on productions and took over the direction of smaller productions.
In addition, she has developed her own things in very provisional rooms and initially concentrated on analog photography, where she developed a technique with black and white hand prints that made her work unique.
In 1980 Erdmann moved to Rome , where he mainly worked on ceramic plastic. In the following years Erdmann worked as a photographer and at various theaters in the field of stage and costume design - among others at the Nationaltheater Mannheim , Staatstheater Wiesbaden and the Paris Court Theater Wiesbaden.
The artistic focus of photography was followed by metal sculpture in 1991. She was introduced to the art of welding by the theater fitters and then dealt with metal for a few years. Exhibitions followed.
In 1994 Christiane Erdmann received a studio grant at the Kunsthaus Wiesbaden . In 2005 she was a founding member of the Walkmühle artists' association, also in Wiesbaden, and has curated numerous themed exhibitions there since then.
In 2005 she took on a teaching position at the Academy of Arts at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .
In 2010, works by the two prize winners of the 2009 Sculpture Park were on view in the municipal gallery in Mörfelden-Walldorf .

From 1994 wood carving became a determining field of work for Christiane Erdmann and has remained so to this day:

- “Gänse”, (# 794) 55 parts, wood, colored, height approx. 65 cm, 2006
- “Vanessa, Lara, Julia”, (# 814, # 916, # 813) wood painted in color, height approx. 165 cm, 2007/2009
- “Jana, Freya, Nike” (# 965, # 968, # 966) wood colored, height approx. 150 cm, 2011

“Working in wood is very traditional. Christiane Erdmann follows traces that go back to the ancestors of the Greek Classical period, who also carved their figures out of a block (but in this case out of stone). The monolithic and the focus on the figurative have just as long been handed down in the art world. The similarities are sometimes striking: Just like the figures of the archaic classical period, Christiane Erdmann's works are often symmetrical, the arms often parallel to the body, swinging freely, sunk in pockets or held in front of the chest. "
“The most recent scenes that Christiane Erdmann developed in 2013 are again bitterly ironic. In the series "Proverbs" women with red high heels and blue uniformed mini dresses become sadistic mother figures who train toddlers or "throw them out with the bathtub." "
In the winter of 2014/2015, Christiane Erdmann and the 12 actors on the stage of the Berliner Ensemble embarked on completely new territory, also for them. It makes gestures, facial expressions and costumes that they themselves from the staging of the sonnets of Shakespeare by Robert Wilson has pulled out as typical and concise in their "language", the material wood, from.
