Christiane Schurian-Bremecker

Christiane Schurian-Bremecker (* 1960 ) is a German educator , cultural and social scientist . She works at the YMCA University as a professor for social work with a focus on methods of social work. In addition, she works as a private lecturer with the nomination “Family Socialization and Ethnicity” at the Faculty of Human Sciences at the University of Kassel .

Life

Schurian-Bremecker began studying European ethnology and empirical cultural studies, history and education at the Philipps University of Marburg in 1982 . As part of her studies, she spent a semester abroad in Spain at the Universidad de Málaga . For her dissertation, Schurian-Bremecker carried out 5 months of empirical field research in Kenya . There she examined the behavior and attitudes of German vacationers. The results of the empirical field research led to a doctorate on the subject of Kenya from the perspective of German tourists in 1989 . An analysis of thought patterns and behaviors when vacationing in a developing country . In 1989 she was awarded a doctorate in social sciences at the Philipps University of Marburg. phil is doing his doctorate.

Starting in 1992, she continuously held teaching assignments in the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Kassel. From 2002, teaching positions followed at the Faculty of Education at the Philipps University of Marburg. In 2001 she was employed as a research assistant at the Department of Social Affairs at the University of Kassel. From the 2001/02 winter semester to the 2003 summer semester, she was entrusted with the substitute professorship for social education with a focus on “intercultural learning and migration” at the University of Kassel.

In 2007, Schurian-Bremecker qualified as a professor at the Department of Social Affairs at the University of Kassel with the subject of children's sleep rituals in different contexts . Since then she has been a member of the University of Kassel as a private lecturer with the venia legendi "Familial Socialization and Ethnicity".

From 2008, Schurian-Bremecker worked for 3 years at the Marburg University Research Academy (MARA) of the Philipps University of Marburg as a consultant for the promotion of young researchers. There she mainly supported young female scientists in the postdoc phase with a career development program. In addition, she initiated the cooperation of the advanced training program "Development and Management of Research Projects" between the University of Kassel and the Philipps University of Marburg.

Schurian-Bremecker has been a professor for methods of social work at the YMCA University since 2010. Since then she has held the position of head of degree program for the part-time degree program in social work. From 2015 to 2018 she was Vice Rector of the YMCA University, her successor is Germo Zimmermann .

Private

Schurian-Bremecker is married and has four children.

Awards

1999–2000 Schurian-Bremecker received a re-entry scholarship for women (as part of the special university program III (HSP III) of the federal and state governments) from the Hessian state government.
