Christine Elisabeth von Braunschweig and Lüneburg , née Countess von Barby and Mühlingen , (born October 25, 1634 in Rosenburg , † May 2, 1681 in Sondershausen ) was Duchess of Braunschweig and Lüneburg .

Life

Christine Elisabeth was born as the daughter of Count Albrecht Friedrich von Barby und Mühlingen and his wife Countess Sophia Ursula zu Oldenburg and Delmenhorst. At the age of 16, she was married to Duke Rudolf August in 1650 . The sermon on the occasion of the wedding was delivered by the Lutheran Joachim Lütkemann . Christine Elisabeth gave birth to four children, three daughters and one son. Only two daughters survived the first years of life. Dorothea Sophie, later wife of the Duke of Schleswig Holstein and Christina Sophie , postulated abbess of the Gandersheim monastery and from 1681 wife of Duke August Wilhelm . Since she lost her parents at an early age, she first grew up with her aunt Katharina Elisabeth, the abbess of the Gandersheim monastery, who she introduced there as a nun. Her sisters were Aemilie Juliane , wife of Count Albert Anton von Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and Antonia Sybilla, wife of Count Christian Wilhelm von Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . Christine Elisabeth died in Sondershausen, where she had gone to help her sister with the birth of a child.
