Christine Engel

Christine Engel (born November 1, 1946 in Schwarzach im Pongau ) is an Austrian Slavic scholar and comparative literary scholar . She is an adjunct professor for Russian literature and art at the University of Innsbruck .

Christine Engel studied Russian and English at the University of Graz as part of a teacher training course with stays in Leningrad (1971/72) and various other Eastern European universities. Since 1974 she has been working at the Institute for Slavic Studies at the University of Innsbruck, interrupted by teaching and research activities in Russia and Salzburg (guest professorship 2001/02). 1980 Engel was in Innsbruck with a thesis on The ones alienated young generation 'in the Soviet prose literature from 1954 to 1967 to the Dr. phil. PhD. Her post-doctoral thesis dealt with developments in the Russian literary system during perestroika and the communication of Russian-language literature in the Austrian daily press in the 1980s . Since 1994 she has held the license to teach as a university lecturer in Innsbruck and has been an adjunct professor since 1997.

Her research focus is on Russian literature and culture of the 20th century, especially Russian film , and their intermedial and intercultural connections. Engel is working at the University of Innsbruck on a research project that captures, organizes and comments on videos on Russian films.

She also translates contemporary Russian prose.
