Christine Muttonen (born July 16, 1954 in Leoben ) is a politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). From 1999 to 2017 she was an intermittent member of the National Council .

Life

Muttonen studied history and English literature at the University of Vienna and spondierte to Magistra . From 1983 to 1999 she taught at the HTL Villach . From 1997 to 1999 she was a member of the Villach municipal council, and since 2000 she has also been a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Carinthia.

After the 1999 election, Muttonen came to the Austrian parliament, where she was cultural spokesperson for the Social Democratic parliamentary group from 2001 to 2009. In the XXIII. In the legislative period from October 2006 to October 2008, she was also the chairwoman of the parliamentary culture committee. Muttonen has been a member of the Austrian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe since 2003. Since 2005 she has been the club's deputy chairwoman of the Social Democratic parliamentary group - the club of social democratic members of the National Council, Federal Council and European Parliament. Muttonen is also a member of the Association of European Parliamentarians for Africa (AWEPA).

After the National Council election in Austria in 2008 , Christine Muttonen initially no longer had a seat in the National Council due to the lower mandate of her party, but moved to its seat by moving a member to the ministerial bank and was sworn in again on December 3, 2008. In 2009 Muttonen took over the post of foreign and European policy spokeswoman for the Social Democratic parliamentary group. In the 2013 National Council election in Austria , Muttonen was re-elected to the National Council for five years. In addition to the EU subcommittee, in which she acts as deputy chairwoman, she is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Main Committee, the Education Committee and the Culture Committee.

Muttonen is married and has one daughter.

OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

Muttonen became a member of the Austrian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in 2000 . From 2014 she was vice-president of the assembly.

In January 2016, she was appointed Special Representative of the Parliamentary Assembly for Central and East Asia. At the 25th Annual Meeting in Tbilisi on July 5, 2016, she prevailed against her competitors Giorgi Tsereteli and Alain Néri and was elected by the parliamentarians as the new President of the OSCE PA.

Muttonen is committed to strengthening conflict resolution capacities in international organizations. Other focal points are the emphasis on the role of women in conflicts (especially in connection with Resolution 1325 of the UN Security Council ) and nuclear disarmament. In European politics, Muttonen advocates a stronger social dimension in the EU .
