Christof Heyduck
Christof Heyduck (born December 21, 1927 in Breslau ) is a German set designer and freelance artist.
Life
Heyduck attended the Maria-Magdalenen-Gymnasium in Breslau . At the age of 17 he was transferred from American captivity in Remagen to French captivity in Camp de Novel near Annecy . Because of his talent for drawing, he was ordered to work in the public library in Annecy. After his release in July 1948, he moved with his parents to Kassel , where he studied at the Werkakademie from 1948 to 1954 . His teachers included the graphic artist Hans Leistikow and the set designer Teo Otto . After completing his studies, he worked as a set designer and head of equipment in Bielefeld , at the Münster Municipal Theaters , the Salzburg State Theater and the German Theater in Göttingen under the director Heinz Hilpert . In 1968 he created the set for the performance The Creation of the World as part of the Wiener Festwochen . Other stations in his work were the Basel Theater , the Stuttgart State Theater , the Baden-Baden Theater , the Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen and the Darmstadt State Theater .
Heyduck has also been working as a video artist since the early 1990s , with his ideas and pictures being implemented by his son Nikolaus Heyduck (* 1957, also a freelance artist).
His wife is the children's book author and illustrator Hilde Heyduck-Huth (* 1929). The Heyduck couple have been married since 1949 and have lived in Bad Orb since 2002 .
Works and exhibitions
Heyduck gave the city of Annecy the numerous pictures he had made while in captivity. Since the imprisonment of war, which shaped him so positively and determined his life, he has emphasized Franco-German friendship and the European idea of unification.
Christof Heyduck's legacy has been part of the holdings of the Düsseldorf Theater Museum since 2002 . In 2004, the projection templates for the Wozzeck opera were acquired, which are regarded as Heyduck's most important picture cycle.
On the occasion of his 75th birthday, the exhibition Spiritual Spaces. Works designed for stage, television and video , which were shown in 2003 and 2004 in the Oberschlesisches Landesmuseum Ratingen, Theatermuseum Düsseldorf , Center for Scenography Katowice, Architecture Museum Wroclaw and West Prussian State Museum Münster.
On the occasion of his 80th birthday, the children's musical Gluck der Sternenfischer was premiered in the Hanau Comoedienhaus in November 2007 .
