Christof Trepesch (* 1967 in Neunkirchen ) is a German art historian and museum director.

Career

After graduating from the Krebsberggymnasium in Neunkirchen, he studied art history, classical archeology and prehistory and early history at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken from 1987 to 1993 . In 1993 he was at Lorenz Dittmann with the thesis "Studies on the dark design of the German late Gothic sculpture" doctorate . From 1994 to 1996 he completed a scientific traineeship at the Saarland Museum Saarbrücken, which was followed by his work in the scientific inventory. From 1998 to 2002 he was curator of the old collection of the Saarland Museum. In 2003 he was acting director of the Saarland Museum and head of the Saarland Cultural Heritage Foundation , leading the largest Saarland museum association. Since 2004 he has been the leading museum director of the art collections and museums in Augsburg and is responsible for their eight houses and institutions. He was and is a lecturer at the universities in Saarbrücken, Freiburg and Augsburg .

Since 2016 he has been a board member of the Working Group of Museums in Bavaria , as well as a board member of the Rhomberg Foundation and the Friends of the Art Collections and Museums Augsburg eV
