Christoffer Johan Wallroth , also Christopher or Kristoffer Wallroth (born April 15, 1841 in Filipstad , Värmland , Sweden , † 1916 ), was a Swedish landscape painter .

Life

Wallroth, the fifth of six children of the dealer Carl Johan Wallroth (1791–1869) and his wife Johanna Catharina Berggren (1804–1863), studied from 1865 to 1868 at the Stockholm Art Academy . In the years 1868/1869 he visited Düsseldorf and Karlsruhe , then Munich and Paris . In 1870 he settled near Filipstad. His landscape pictures, which reflect the late romantic art concept of the Düsseldorf School of Painting , deal with motifs from Värmland.

Wallroth's niece was the writer Selma Lagerlöf . She set a literary memorial to her beloved uncle in the stories Mårbacka (1920) and Ett barns memoarer (1930). The figure of "Patron Julius" in the novel Gösta Berling (1891) is also partially copied from him.
