Christoph Daniel from Anweil
Christoph Daniel von Anweil (* May 1564 , † October 8, 1620 in Rötteln ) was a margrave of Baden-Durlach Landvogt in the Oberamt Rötteln .
Origin and family
Christoph Daniel comes from the Thurgau noble family von Anweil . He is a son of Daniel von Anweil († 1598), who had worked as Vogt in Sulz , Württemberg since 1581 , and Martha (Margaretha) von Breitenlandenberg († 1611). He married Küngoldt Höcklin von Steineck, a daughter of Johann Heinrich Höcklin von Steineck. A daughter is known from this connection:
- Martha ⚭ 1631 Hans Conrad von Wartenfels
Life
In a document from September 1597, Christoph Daniel is named Hofmeister zu Durlach.
After the previous Landschreiber of the Oberamt Rötteln, Joseph Hettler , became Chancellor of the Margrave Ernst Friedrich von Baden-Durlach in 1599 , he sold his moated castle Steinen to Christoph Daniel von Anweil, who was mentioned as owner in 1605 and 1618. Since Steinen is in the home of his wife Küngoldt Höcklin von Steineck, it can be assumed that Christoph Daniel was already aiming for a managerial position in the Rötteln senior office. In 1607, Margrave Georg Friedrich appointed him bailiff of the Oberamt Rötteln, a position already held by two members of his family ( Hans Albrecht von Anweil and Fritz Jakob von Anweil). Together with the land clerk and doctor of law, Christoph Leibfried , he formed the collegial top management. An instruction issued by Leibfried and Anweil in 1610 to pastors and bailiffs on what to do in the event of the plague has been preserved.
There is no demonstrable participation in the negotiation of the alliance between the margravate on the one hand and the cities of Zurich and Bern on the other, but it is obvious that he belonged to the aforementioned councilors of the margrave.
Meanwhile, while he was working in Rötteln, I was in correspondence with the Basel botanist Caspar Bauhin .
His baroque tomb is in the Röttler church and shows Christoph Daniel in life size.
