Christoph Erbstösser

Christoph "Chris" Erbstösser (* 1965 in Cologne ) is a German jazz musician ( piano , composition) who spent many years in Belgium.

Live and act

Erbstösser first studied in the Netherlands at the Hilversum Conservatory in the 1980s and then went to the USA to study with Richie Beirach and Jim Beard .

Erbstösser accompanied well-known soloists such as Paquito D'Rivera , John Thomas , Randy Brecker and Bob Malach . He played in a trio with Dré Pallemaerts or Félix Simtaine , in Erwin Vann's quartet (with Michel Hatzigeorgiou and Pallemaerts) and with Chris Joris , with whom he also released on recordings. He also arranged for the band Ten-Tammare and composed for Toon Roos . He was the pianist of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra between 1997 and 2002 and can be heard on several of the band's albums, including a. with Maria Schneider or Bert Joris . In 2001 his trio album Vive les Etrangers was released on the WERF label. The follow-up album Alma was created on the same label with Sonny Troupé and Mike Armoogum. His compositions integrate modern jazz and African influences. He has performed at major festivals such as the North Sea Jazz Festival , Jazz Middelheim , the Liège Jazz Festival and Jazz à Vienne .

Erbstösser taught at the jazz department of the Antwerp Conservatory. He also has experience as a sound engineer and has his own recording studio. He has lived in Paris since 2006.
