Epitaph of Christoph Vitzthum von Eckstädt in St. Petri Cathedral in Bautzen

Christoph Vitzthum von Eckstädt, who came from the family of von Vitzthum , was the son of George Vitzthum von Eckstädt , captain of the offices of Cottbus and Peitz in Brandenburg , owner of the Jahmen , Dürrbach and Kaupa estates . After the death of his father in 1641, he and his brother Johann Friedrich became, among other things, heir, feudal lord and court lord on Jahmen in Upper Lusatia and served as governor of the Albertine Wettins . As such, he can be proven from 1665 as governor in Upper Lusatia.

He was married to Sabina Elisabeth, née von Max, and left behind the widow four sons, Johann Georg, Christoph Friedrich, Gottlob Christian and Johann Vitzthum von Eckstädt.

Christoph Vitzthum von Eckstädt died on the morning of April 14, 1688 at around 4 a.m. on the Ortenburg in today's Bautzen. He was buried in the crypt of the town church; the funeral sermon given there by Magister Michael Liefmann was printed in Budissin in 1689.
