Christopher Adler

Christopher Adler (* 1972 ) is an American composer, pianist and improvisation musician.

biography

Adler studied composition with Scott Lindroth , Stephen Jaffe , Sidney Corbett and Evan Ziporyn , Thai music with Panya Roongruang and organ with James David Christie and Haig Mardirosian . He earned a bachelor's degree in composition and mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master's and doctoral degree in composition from Duke University, and is an Associated Professor teaching composition, sound art, music theory, 20th century music, and world music at the University of San Diego .

As an improvisation musician, Adler has worked with Mark Dresser , George Lewis , Anthony Davis , Vinny Golia , Michael Vlatkovich , Christopher Garcia and Gustavo Aguilar , among others . With Alan Lechusza and Vikas Srivastava he forms the Christopher Adler Trio , with whom he recorded several albums. As a pianist he has performed with the ensemble for new music NOISE and has recorded compositions by Derek Keller , Nathan Hubbard , Stuart Saunders Smith and Christopher Burns .

He has also performed with Yo-Yo Mas Silk Road Ensemble , the group red fish blue fish , the Ensemble ACJW and Ensemble 64.8 , the Van Buren String Quartet , the Pangea Quartet and the Seattle Creative Orchestra . In 2007 he was one of the founders of the soundON Festival of Modern Music , which takes place annually in La Jolla, California.
