The Schiebecksbach in the urban area of Harzgerode in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt is a tributary of the Selke in the Lower Harz .

geography

course

The Schiebecksbach rises south-southeast of the core town of Harzgerode near Bundesstraße 242 (Augustenhöhe) and Königeroder Straße from a joint source arm with the Leine flowing to Eine . More water is supplied from a large number of springs in the following common headwaters of Schiebecksbach, Titanbach , Leine and the Leine tributary Schwennecke . The headwaters lie in the forest in the triangle of Harzgerode, Pansfelde and Falkenstein Castle . The spring arms, which tend to flow towards the north, fill the Titanbach, those to the west the Schiebecksbach and the Leine or Schwennecke to the south and east. The individual spring arms are sometimes only a few meters next to each other. The Friederickenstraße runs between Degnershausen and the Wilhelmshof corridor on the Selke and Wipper watershed.

The Schiebecksbach initially flows northeastwards, then northwestwards and ultimately northwards through the Lower Harz. Its banks are bordered by a narrow strip of meadow in the further course through forest areas.

The Schiebecksbach flows into the Scheerenstieg forester's lodge , which belongs to Mägdesprung and which stands between the II.  And IV. Selkehammer (former iron hammer ), on the right side into the Bode tributary Selke coming from the west .

Tributaries

In addition to the source arms, the Schiebecksbach only has one tributary. Shortly before the mouth, the loosened pit water from the pit "Hope God" flows from the mouth hole of the Herzog-Alexius-Erbstollen , designed with Mägdesprunger artificial casting, over a short ditch to the right into the stream.

Localities

A desolate, fallen place was on the stream of the same name. The place is proven from 1467, as schibbeck . The last written mention seems to date from 1566 as Schibeck . Intermediate names were Schiebeck (1511), schibig (1514) and Schibegk (1539). Today only Harzgerode are located near the source and the Scheerenstieg forester's house, which also belongs to Harzgerode, is located at the mouth. Another forester's house with the same name is further north.

Flora and fauna

The black stork has been observed at the Schiebecksbach, but no breeding record has yet been made. The Indian balsam found in the Schiebecksbach and its tributaries is combated as an invasive neophyte . The mouth of the Herzog-Alexius-Erbstollen is used by the Bechstein bat as winter quarters. The old water solution tunnels further upstream ( Schiebeckstalstollen and Frederikenstollen ) are winter quarters for both Bechstein's bat and mouse-eared bat.

Schiebeckstal

The cut in the Lower Harz region created by the brook is the Schiebeckstal . In the lower Schiebeckstal, south of the Riegelberg near Harzgerode , there are limestone blocks of stylioline lime embedded in clay slate . Here are Feuersalamander relatively common.

etymology

The name of the creek is a three-part. The original appellative here is -beck , with the appended -bach and Schie- as a defining word. Bach is actually self-explanatory, beck also means Bach. -bach was added tautologically . This is (was) customary, especially in official use, where creeks were attached to flowing waters in ignorance of the original meaning . Such a case is likely to exist here. The meaning of the determinant Schie- is the Middle High German schie (fence post). Schiebecksbach means "stream that flows on trees that are suitable for fence posts".

pollution

Landfill water is discharged from the Harzgerode landfill. In addition, solution water from the Herzog-Alexis-Adit (mining operation 1830–1887) flows into the stream. The portal of the Herzog-Alexis-Erbstollen is just before the mouth .
