IV. Hammer

IV. Hammer , also called Fourth Hammer or IV. Friedrichshammer , is a district of Mägdesprung in the Harz Mountains , which in turn belongs to the town of Harzgerode in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt . In addition, it is registered as a hammer mill in the local monument register.

Geographical location

IV. Hammer is located in the Selke Valley in the Harz Nature Park . It is located south of the district road  2363, which leads from Mägdesprung to Selkemühle , and south of the Selke, which flows across the road, at about 250  m above sea level. NHN .

history

The district, which consists of only a few houses and is also known as IV. Friedrichshammer , was built in 1786/87 as the last of the four hammer mills along the Selke. The name Friedrichshammer refers to the founder of the works, Prince Friedrich Albrecht von Anhalt-Bernburg . The hammer served as a fresh stove for the production of bar iron . Later it was used as a tin hammer. Several residential and workshop buildings are still preserved. At the former house of the hammer master there is a cast plaque. The hammer mill was connected to the Mägdesprung ironworks .

In 1857 a barn was built from local slate . In 2010 it was expanded to become the Selketaler Waldgasthof with a bakery. The vegetarian and vegan operated inn opened on August 27, 2010. Holiday rooms and apartments are also rented out.

The written form Fourth Hammer is also used as the spelling of the place name .

The IV. Friedrichshammer is included as No. 179 in the system of stamp offices of the Harz hiking pin.
