Christopher Brathwaite

Christopher Anthony "Chris" Brathwaite (born August 12, 1948 in Maraval , Port of Spain ; † November 12, 1984 in Eugene , Oregon , USA ) was a sprinter from Trinidad and Tobago .

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, he was eliminated over 100 m in the preliminary run and reached the semi-finals in the 4 x 100 meter relay .

In 1978 he won at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton with the team from Trinidad and Tobago silver in the 4-by-100-meter relay . He finished seventh over 100 m and reached the semi-finals over 200 m .

At the Olympic Games in Moscow in 1980 he reached the semi-finals over 100 m and the quarter-finals over 200 m . In the 4 x 100 meter relay , he was eliminated in the preliminary run.

In 1982 he reached the semi-finals at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane over 100 m and 200 m and in 1983 at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki over 100 m and 200 m the quarter-finals.

Brathwaite attended several schools in the United States, starting in 1972 at Eastern New Mexico in 1972, moving to Spokane Community College in 1973 and then for most of his studies at the University of Oregon (1974-77), which he received with a bachelor's degree - and Masters degrees in Sociology. At the age of 36, he was shot dead by a college student who ran rampant near his alma mater, the University of Oregon .
