Christopher "Chris" Hohn (born October 1966 in Addlestone ) is co-founder, owner and head of the British hedge fund The Children's Investment Fund (TCI).

He is considered extremely media-shy, which is why there are hardly any publicly available photos of him. Without appearing in public, he donated over £ 466 million (about 590 million euros) to help children in the Third World . That is why he is referred to as a philanthropist , especially in the English media .

education

Hohn attended the University of Southampton and graduated with First Class Honors in accounting and business administration . He was then able to do his MBA at Harvard Business School through a scholarship .

Career

After graduating, Hohn worked in the financial sector at RIT Capital Partners and Perry Capital . In 2003 he then founded the TCI hedge fund in London. Since then, the fund has invested under his leadership in a wide variety of companies worldwide, including stock exchanges, banks, railways and electricity suppliers.

family

Hohn's father Paul, a European-born Jamaican , came to England in 1960 and worked as a car mechanic.

Hohn was married to Jamie Cooper-Hohn and is currently in divorce. Jamie Cooper-Hohn leads the funded among others by the TCI Fund Foundation " Children's Investment Fund Foundation " (CIFF), the aid projects in the AIDS -combat of children in Africa and India funded. The foundation also supports projects in agriculture and education.
