Veijeany Christopher Samba (born March 28, 1984 in Créteil ) is a Congolese football player born in France . The tall central defender had his breakthrough in the English Premier League after his first professional positions in Sedan and Berlin at the Blackburn Rovers .

Career

The 1.93 m tall defender came to Hertha BSC in early 2005 via the French clubs FC Rouen and CS Sedan . Samba played his first Bundesliga game on August 27, 2005 in Munich . In January 2007 he completed a trial session at the English Premier League club Blackburn Rovers , to which he moved shortly thereafter. The transfer fee is said to have been £ 400,000. In October 2007, Samba, who was a regular at Blackburn Rovers and mostly formed the central defense with Ryan Nelsen , extended his contract for another two years until 2012 - the contract was renewed in November 2009 until the end of the 2013/14 season.

At the end of February 2012 Samba moved to the Russian first division club Anzhi Makhachkala . On January 31, 2013, he went back to the Premier League for the Queens Park Rangers . He signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2017. After the team was relegated from the Premier League, he returned to Anzhi Makhachkala for the 2013/14 season. According to media reports, the transfer fee was 11.6 million euros. In the same transfer period, Samba moved from Anzhi to Dynamo Moscow as part of the austerity measures . After a brief stint at Panathinaikos Athens , he moved to English second division Aston Villa for a year in the summer of 2017 . Samba has been without a club since summer 2018.

National team

Samba was a national player of the Republic of the Congo from 2004 to 2013 and played 26 international matches (no goal).
