The Christ Church is a church building in Chursdorf , a district of Seelingstädt in the Greiz district in Thuringia . The community belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony .

History and architecture

The church, which has been reformed several times, was built in the 13th century as a Romanesque hall church. The recessed apse is semicircular on the inside and irregularly broken on the outside. From 1738 to 1740 it was painted in a contemporary, folk style. The equipment was changed accordingly. The building was extensively renovated and rebuilt from 1971 to 1981. With the addition of a staircase and the sacristy , the building was extended to the west. The parapet of the three-sided gallery is decorated with carvings from the former stands that were demolished. The 39 inscribed images also on the gallery show scenes from the life of Jesus. On the paintings on the western gallery, the names of the donors, who paid for the furnishings and painting of the church, are recorded and marked 1740. In the fields of the ceiling 48 round pictures can be seen, the figures of the Old and New Testament in chronological order, as given in the Bible. The first picture shows Adam and the last one Jesus and John the Baptist . the building was rebuilt from 1970 to 1981, the driveway to the parking lot was renewed in 1999.

Furnishing

  • The organ was built in 1909 by the organ building company Jehmlich from Dresden and from 1979 to 1981 it was restored and partially renewed by the organ building company Schüssler from Greiz due to heavy woodworm infestation .
  • The Romanesque apse arch has bulbous transepts .
  • The pulpit is on the southern side of the apse arch and is decorated with carved fruit and leaves. It was probably made at the beginning of the 18th century.
  • The two carved figures represent Peter and Paul. They come from a late Gothic altarpiece and are colored.
