Human chromosome 6 idiogram

Chromosome 6 is one of 23 pairs of chromosomes in humans . In general, humans have two largely identical copies of this chromosome in almost all cells .

Decryption

Chromosome 6 consists of 171 million base pairs , the smallest information units in DNA . This chromosome contains approximately 5.5% of the total DNA in a human cell. It contains between 1,100 and 1,600 genes , the identification of which is part of an ongoing process to decipher the human genome.

Known genes

  • CNR1 : cannabinoid receptor 1
  • Factor XIII : fibrin stabilizing factor
  • HSPA1A : Hsp70
  • CDKN1A : p21
  • DSP : Desmoplakin
  • CYP21 : steroid 21 hydroxylase
  • PARCK : Parkin ubiquitin protein ligase
  • PKHD1 : Polycystic kidney and hepatic disease 1
  • PLG : plasmin
