The chromotropic is a chemical compound from the group of sulfonic acids and naphthalene . It is used in the chromotropic acid reaction to determine free or removable formaldehyde and as a coupling component for azo dyes from the group of chromotropic dyes . The chromotropic dyes are used in some trichrome stains , such as the Gömöri trichrome stain , and for the quantitative determination of silver, boron, chromium, mercury, titanium, chromate, formaldehyde, nitrite and nitrate.
